   For the past week the group has been researching various thriller movies, the movie we're researching at the moment is the found footage thriller film V/H/S. VHS is an very unique thriller movie unlike any I’ve seen so far. VHS utilizes a unique amount of camera and editing work to immerse the audience in the found footage style. The VHS uses ominous music to create tension and suspense amongst audiences and the film also relies on the use of sound and visual distortion in the film. The films use of acting also makes the audience feel disturbed and disgusted as if the audience was there reacting live with the cast. The VHS also properly uses dim lighting to constantly leave the audience tense and scared. This film is easily my favorite out of the 3 I’ve researched and it unsettled me the most out of all the thriller films I’ve seen.     For the past week the group has been researching various thriller movies, the movie we're researching at the moment is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (TCM) is a long term favorite amongst scare enthusiasts and has touched the hearts of millions of fans. However, the most recent installment of the series is poorly rated by many due to its poor storyline. The TCM is a scary film and has some notable scenes that draw out fear in the audience but lack of interesting storyline makes it bland and unentertaining. The TCM uses tracking shots, close-ups and inserts. The TCM also uses very detailed props and costumes to immerse audiences such as chainsaws and leather masks. The TCM fantastically uses jump scares and music to intensify the film and it truly terrifies the audience.    For the past week the group has been researching various thriller movies, the movie we're researching at the moment is the Boogeyman. The boogeyman was a very traditional and recent thriller movie using various conventions to thoroughly spook audiences and keep them drawn in. The boogey man utilizes loads of close-up shots on the actors faces to emphasize their acting and draws out fear and suspense in the audience. The boogeyman also uses phenomenal music which had me hiding under the covers. The music was sharp and intense, but also immensely ominous. Lastly the boogeyman used various costumes and props to immerse the audience. The conventions of this movie that I enjoyed was the intricate use of music, settings and camera angles. The music in this movie captivated the essence of horror and left me terrified while I was watching and made the movie tremendously interesting to watch. After a long discussion with my group, we finally have decided what genre we want to utilize to create our opening sequence. We decided to use the thriller genre as it makes the most sense with our pitch and is a completely new spin on the way we have been filming and editing up until now. We picked the thriller genre as it made the most sense and felt that it synergized best with the pitch we chose. High quality thriller movies also don't require expensive sets or extreme props, they can be done with basic editing software and cameras and can still come out entertaining and terrifying. This meant we had more freedom with our budget to put towards costumes and other mis-en-scene to make our film better. Also I enjoy watching thriller movies as they make the audience feel terrified but forced to watch which is a sensation I would love to try and replicate with our opening sequence.     Genre: Horror  Common Camera Angles, Shots, & Movement  : Common camera angles are Dutch, low, and high angles. Common shots are POV, wide shots, and extremes close ups. Common movement tracking shots and tilts.  Common Mis-En-Scene  : Common make up is using fake blood for bloody or gory scenes. It also just depends on the character and what facial structure they want to emphasize. Common props are weapons such as knifes, guns, or even a chainsaw. Common costumes is dark clothing and messy/frizzy hair. Common acting is usually acting scared during some scenes. Common lighting is dim lighting uses to create tension. Some even use casting shadows. Common setting is a dark, deserted area.  Common editing  is a fade into black to build tension, the way they place their shots, and jump cuts.  Common sounds  during horror films is heavy breathing, footsteps, or the slashing or stabbing of flesh.    I'm researching genres to see if it's possible to spin our pitch in a creative way. The genre I am researching at the moment is the action genre.   These are our pitches we came up with for our opening sequence  Pitch A: A group of students plan out an innocent camping trip and begin to find out that there is something out there, something watching them the entire time. Pitch B: A family hires a personal chef, the chef sneakily steals items from their house covering his tracks no matter the cost. Pitch A seemed a little cliche to us at first but it was a very feasible idea that could still be loads of fun and really well produced. We found that it would be simpler to use effective music in a thriller as there are loads more films and media work using suspenseful music. We also had a slight plan as to where we would film the sequence, Oleta State Park. We also had the camping equipment necessary for the props and costumes allowing our budgets to be put towards other things.  Welcome back! in this blog I will be talking about me and my group mates. The people I will be working with are Nicholas, Enzo, and Joao. The reason why I decided to work with them for this project is because I trust them. I have known the Nicholas and Joao since my freshman year and I have been friend with them since. I know how they are with their school work and I know they will actually put time and effort into this project. Then about Enzo, I have only known him since my sophomore year when he was a freshman. I don't know him very well but my friends know with him and by what I hear, he's a really good student and gets his work done. I worked with him before for our Music Video project. I saw how much work and dedication he was putting into it. Everyone else also worked really good together. I love this group that we formed through school projects. I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I moved to the United States when I was 10 years old.
